Copy of a Painting by Ingres

One of the time-tested methods of learning how to paint better is to make a copy of a work by a master artist. In this case, one of our weekend students decided to make a painting based on the work of 19th century French artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. It's really coming out great!

Of course I want to state for the record that her work was not traced, nor gridded from the original. She did all the work herself to get the drawing correct, judging the accuracy with her own eyes and checking her judgements through sighting.

The method that we use here at the studio: drawing first, then painting, is a great way to attain greater accuracy in proportions and placement (absolutely essential when drawing a face).

Good drawing makes for a strong picture!
