Today’s post features a recently completed landscape painting by one of our adult students. While painting this, she explored a variety of paint application techniques with both brushes and a palette knife.
A lot of interesting effects can be achieved through variation of paint application, such as building up the paint in an “impasto” manner. By loading the paint on the canvas with a palette knife, an artist can create many different textures and types of paint edges to add variety to the work.
Speaking of edges, this work has a broad array of edge types, from hard to soft, to blurred. This really helps to create a sense of atmosphere in the work. Great job!
